The amount of inbound and outbound cargo on Ulaanbaatar's railway, along with transit freight transportation, will increase in accordance with a decision reached by the Transport Transit Mongolia roundtable discussion, organized by the Asia Region of the International Railway Cooperation group.


The meeting was held in Beijing, China. The amount of inbound and outbound cargo will increase by 1.2 million tons over the previous year's amount, and the amount of transit freight transportation will increase by 40,000 tons. The meeting was an initiative of the Mongolian Ministry of Road, Transportation and Urban Development. Representatives from member countries including Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Vietnam and North Korea participated. The member countries determined that the Ulaanbaatar railway is the most efficient rail line connecting South East Asia to European.
